Brest has informed Karamoko Dembele that he will be sold despite his continued ties to Derby County.
The winger had an incredible season last season while on loan at Blackpool, when he won two individual awards for his outstanding play. The Rams are reportedly interested in Dembele, a winger whose contract expires in 2026 and who would require a transfer fee.
However, GrĂ©gory Lorenzi, the sporting director of Brest, confirmed to L’Equipe that the 21-year-old is one of four players who will be going this summer. Brest, who will compete in the Champions League next season, have opted to cut their losses on the player. During a fantastic campaign, the former England and Scotland youth international recorded nine goals and fourteen assists.
The manager Neil Critchley stated: “We obviously want to keep good players and bring them to the football club- Kaddy is obviously one of them, but it’s not always us and what we want, players and agents have their thoughts and ideas as well. Dembele has unavoidably been linked with a return to Blackpool, where he was so productive.” It should go without saying that he’s the kind of player we’d love to have if we could.
“I enjoy watching him play football; he’s a fantastic player.” He’s unique in this league and really exciting. He backs himself when he takes the ball into any part of the pitch, displaying incredible bravery. He is a wonderful youngster who is a pleasure to work with.”
Being considered a prodigy when he began his career at Celtic, Dembele was selected to play for their under-20 development team at the age of 13. Before departing for Brest in 2022, he made a total of eight appearances for the Glasgow giants. He appeared in 16 games for the French team, although he is currently considered surplus to requirements.
