Ex-Florida QB Anthony Richardson returns to Indianapolis Colts’ workouts after shoulder surgery
Anthony Richardson, a former quarterback for the Florida Gators, returned to the practice field this week with the Indianapolis Colts to begin organized team activities. This is his first return following shoulder surgery for an injury sustained during the NFL season’s fifth week. As he gets ready for his second season, the No. 4 overall choice in the 2023 NFL Draft offered some insight into his recuperation process.
“For me, every day is unique,” Richardson remarked. “On certain days, I wake up and realize that my shoulder hurts a little bit. On other days, I feel fantastic. However, I work every day. Every time I get out of rehab or hit the weight room, I feel like, “Okay, I’m back.” Because I recall that a few months prior, I was unable to
even raise my arm. Thus, I return to work every day.”
Before sustaining the injury that ended his season in October, Richardson had a strong start to his NFL rookie year, throwing for 577 yards and three touchdowns in four games. Richardson had resumed throwing by February.
Richardson stated, “I just want to stay healthy this season.” “Just play the best I can and go out there for the team.” I’m not really chasing a perfect season because, as much as I would like it to, I know it will never materialize. It is not going to occur. “My goal is to ensure that I perform flawlessly, one play at a time. If I succeed in doing so, the season could be ideal.”
Richardson spent three years at Florida playing in twenty-four games. As a redshirt freshman in 2021, he made his first career start and was selected to the All-SEC Freshman Team. Richardson assumed full-time responsibility.
in 2022. In his sophomore season, the 6-foot-4, 244-pound quarterback started every game for the Gators. During the season, Richardson completed 54% of his throws for 2,549 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. In addition, he scored nine more touchdowns on the run and gained 654 yards rushing.
Twice in the 2022 season, Richardson passed for 400 yards or more, including a career-high 453 yards in a defeat at Tennessee. While at Florida, he completed eight career games with at least two touchdown passes.
Richardson stated, “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with my play style.” “When people see me, they automatically assume that I want to run the ball all the time because I’m a big quarterback. He is going to get physical because it is what he wants. He was injured.”And that is untrue.”
