Everyone suspected something was wrong when Alek Manoah left the series finale in Chicago on Wednesday in the second inning. After the Blue Jays arrived in Toronto, Manoah had an MRI and was found to have a right UCL sprain.

The 26-year-old will probably miss a “long period of time” due to his injured elbow and will get a second opinion. Manoah claimed that following his previous outing against the Detroit Tigers, he initially felt pain in his elbow.

Following the game in Chicago, Manoah remarked, “Felt it after my start in Detroit and tried to do everything I can with the training staff through the week.”

“A few days ago, I threw a bullpen, and it felt okay.” Though I felt like I could have gone out there and given the squad a shot, I was unable to do so.

Manoah has an appointment with famous surgeon Dr. Keith Meister for an in-person evaluation next Thursday, according to manager John Schneider. One of MLB’s top orthopaedic surgeons, Dr. Keith Meister serves as the Texas Rangers’ head club physician.

Alek Manoah, a right-hander for the Blue Jays, will miss “Extended Period” due to elbow injury

What looked to be a strong comeback season for the former Blue Jays pitcher gets derailed by the injury. Manoah had a dismal 2023 season after beginning the All-Star Game and placing third in the Cy Young voting in 2022.

He shot up to 5.87 ERA. Toronto moved Manoah to rookie ball in an attempt to help him get back on track because of his severe problems.

After suffering from inflammation in his shoulder during Spring Training, he started this season on a minor league rehabilitation assignment.

On May 5, Manoah made his debut for the season, allowing seven runs (six earned) in four innings of work. In five starts, he has a 3.70 ERA while pitching 26 strikeouts and 8 walks.

The Phillies sent minor league reliever Ryan Burr to Toronto, who had Manoah out for at least the middle section of the season.

While Manoah was sidelined, Triple-A Buffalo’s right-hander Bowden Francis began the season in the rotation. He is currently on a minor league rehab assignment. Francis’s forearm tendonitis has kept him out of action for the past month.

The Blue Jays are unable to determine Alek Manoah’s injury severity or when he might make a return until all the information is in.
