Superstar outfielder Juan Soto of the New York Yankees left the team’s game early on Thursday due to an injury.
Former Dodgers outfielder Alex Verdugo took Soto’s spot in the starting lineup.
Just one day before the Yankees and Dodgers play a three-game series in New York, the injury occurs.
As he has done all season, Soto began the game in right field. However, Verdugo replaced him when play resumed following a 56-minute rain delay. At Yankee Stadium, Trent Grisham began the game in centre field, while Aaron Judge made his first start of the season in left field. Judge made the switch and returned to right field.
According to the Yankees, Soto is having soreness in his left forearm.
Since being acquired from the San Diego Padres this offseason, Soto has been playing at an MVP-caliber level this season. While the Yankees wait to determine the extent of the injury, they should keep an eye on the early departure.
Soto was 0-for-1 with two walks and a run scored before leaving the game.
