The 4 Reading FC players who could attract serious transfer interest this summer

It’s unclear when or if a sale will occur, but for now, keeping important players and having contract talks with Kelvin Abrefa and Tivonge Rushesha must be their top priorities.

The Royals’ supporters will be hoping for a takeover to occur before additional player sales are necessary because the Berkshire club needs to acquire players instead of losing them.

With some of their young players maybe prepared to step up and contribute to the first squad, their academy could prove useful.

However, they obviously need a boost in quality, and they might gain from holding onto their main players.

We examine four important guys who may draw attention in the upcoming months ahead of the summer window.

Wing, who joined the Royals when his contract with Wycombe Wanderers expired, has been an essential member of the first squad and has been one of the Club’s top acquisitions of the summer 2023 transfer window.

In the early part of the campaign, he was sidelined for a while, but ever then, he has been an essential member of the first team.

Throughout the 2023–24 season, he made 49 competitive appearances and recorded 11 goals and 11 assists. Despite his stats, he was the team’s engine and a game-changer in the middle of the field.

The Royals might not have been able to score enough goals to maintain their third-tier status without him.

Speaking of priceless players, Knibbs has been incredible ever since Ruben Selles moved away from the 4-2-2-2 system.

Out wide, he wasn’t that useful for the Royals, but he has been exceptional as a central advanced midfielder, using the space well and combining with Sam Smith effectively to guide the Royals to safety.

Knibbs is another player who has two years remaining on his contract and it would be a mistake to sell him this summer, considering how much of an asset he could be behind Smith next term.

The 25-year-old still has room to improve, so offering him a new contract could be a good decision when a sale goes through. Whether he would sign it remains to be seen though.

Early in the season, Azeez was so bad that many questioned Selles’ choice to keep starting him.

But right before the Christmas break, he was able to rediscover his confidence and turn into a true game-changer. Since then, he has also displayed genuine glimpses of brilliance.

He can score amazing goals from outside the box alongside Wing, but his quickness from outside the area is also vital.

Although the winger occasionally lacks quality in the final third, he has the ability to develop into a serious danger at a higher level in the future.

With his contract status in mind, it could be worthwhile to sell him if they can, even if the club recently exercised a one-year extension to keep him with the club until 2025. bring in a substitute.

They would prefer to keep him, but it would hurt to lose him for nothing. It will be fascinating to watch whether they get interested in Plymouth Argyle again.

Of the four players on this list, Smith has likely been the least remarkable, but he has nonetheless been an important contributor.

He is, in fact, arguably the only reliable striker option available to the Royals right now, which is why the Berkshire club can’t afford to let him go.
It would be devastating if the Royals traded him at this point because he scored 16 goals last season, with 15 of those coming in the league, held the ball up well, won aerial duels, and maneuvered himself into advantageous situations.

His goal scoring history at this level for Cambridge United and the Royals will draw attention.
