The Cubs’ top prospect, Cade Horton, will miss time due to a lat strain, also known as a “moderate subscap strain,” according to Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times.

The report is that he won’t be able to resume throwing for three to four weeks.

This season marks Horton’s first appearance at the Triple-A level at the age of 22. He has a 7.50 ERA in five starts and eighteen innings pitched with the Iowa Cubs.

He’s walked 11 and struck out 22 batters. Horton has a 1.10 ERA in four starts in Double-A, throwing 16.1 innings and striking out eighteen batters.

In addition to being the Cubs’ top prospect, Horton is ranked No. 17 overall by MLB.com. In the 2022 MLB entry draft, the Cubs selected him with the seventh overall pick.

With a 2.65 ERA that he maintained through the minors and reached Double-A in his rookie season, he was named the Cubs’ Minor League Pitcher of the Year in his first pro season.
