CHICAGO (AP) — Eloy Jiménez was just beginning to feel comfortable at bat when he suffered another injury. That’s among the more annoying aspects of the slugger’s most recent injury for Jiménez and the Chicago White Sox.
In Tuesday night’s 5-0 victory at Toronto, Jiménez injured his left hamstring while scoring from second base in the fifth inning. It is anticipated that he will be out for four to six weeks.
“I sensed that I was getting close to scoring. I responded, “Not once more.” Before the 5-3 loss to Baltimore on Saturday, Jiménez stated, “That was my reaction.” However, I vowed not to sit here and feel sorry for myself. All I’m going to do is work hard. I’m confident that I’ll discover the solution to this. This will only be a nightmare, a dreadful dream.
The 27-year-old Jiménez scored 79 runs and blasted 31 home runs in 122 games in 2019, but a lengthy line of injuries has prevented him from living up to his talent. In April, a left adductor strain also kept him off the field.
In 2023, he participated in 120 games; however, he also missed time due to a left hamstring injury and was placed on the injured list following an emergency appendectomy. A right hamstring injury limited him to 84 appearances in 2022.
Jiménez was placed on the injured list on Wednesday after hitting.321 (9 for 28) with a home run in his previous eight games.
“This is a challenge for me,” he admitted. Everything presents a difficulty. It’s a challenge each time I visit the IL. I know that when I return, it will be with even more strength than before.
Before their fourth straight loss, the last-place White Sox reinstated rookie third baseman Bryan Ramos from the 10-day injured list. To free up space on the roster, outfielder Zack DeLoach was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte.
One of the team’s best prospects, Ramos, has been forced to miss time due to a strained left quad. On May 4, he was promoted from Double-A Birmingham, where he hit.281 (9 for 32).
Before the game, manager Pedro Grifol stated, “He’ll get a day off here and there and just make sure that we don’t work that too hard and hinder his ability to stay on the field,” and then gradually transition him into playing every day.
